Tire Derived Fuel (TDF)

Unleashing High-Energy Tire Derived Fuel for Sustainable Energy Generation

Products > Industrial Fuels > Shredded Tires (TDF)

Used  tires  are  one  of  the  most  readily  useable  and  highest  heat  content wastes available. TDF is produced from shredded tires from cars and trucks. Its Gross Calorific Value ranges typically from 7.500 kcal/kg up to 8.000 kcal/kg ARB.

Environmentally, TDF is much similar to coal and better in some aspects like Sulphur content. Typically, TDF has 0.5% to 1.5% Sulphur; this is same as superior quality coal and less than most coal and petcoke grades. TDF can reduce fuel cost to industries and can help industries reduce the potential carbon tax.

Renelux serves the global industry with top quality EU Origin TDF originated mainly from Greece and Italy.

GRAX-01 Greek Origin TDF 19 12 04

Renelux TDF GRAX-01 is produced from shredded tires from cars and trucks (mix). Its Gross Calorific Value is higher than 7300 kcal/kg or, approximately, 31.84 MJ/kg.

On January 2019, Renesolids SMPC (Renelux Commodities SMPC's previous name), carried out one of the largest transboundary shipments of waste ever done from Greece and Balkans to EU and OECD destinations. It was a dry bulk cargo shipment of 1.000 Metric Tons of TDF GRAX-01 sized 90mm x 90mm. The port of loading was Eleusis Greece, and the port of discharge was Gemlik Turkey.

Legal Framework

Regulation (EC) No 1013/2006 of 14 June 2006 on shipments of waste lays down procedures for the transboundary shipments (i.e. transport) of waste. This Regulation implements into EU law the provisions of the "Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal" as well as the OECD Decision. The Regulation includes a ban on the export of hazardous wastes to non-OECD countries ("Basel ban") as well as a ban on the export of waste for disposal.

Shipments of TDF destined for recovery operations within the European Union as well as from the European Union to OECD-Decision countries are subject to the simplified provisions of Article 18 and Annex VII of the Regulation (EC) No 1013/2006.

Shipments of TDF from the European Union to non OECD-Decision countries might be subject to the procedure of prior written notification and consent as laid down in TITLE II, Chapter I, Articles 4-17 of the Regulation (EC) No 1013/2006.

Notification shall be effected by means of the following documents:

the notification document set out in Annex IA; and
the movement document set out in Annex IB of the Regulation (EC) No 1013/2006.

The notifier shall supply on, or annex to, the notification document information and documentation as listed in Annex II, Part 1 of the Regulation (EC) No 1013/2006. The notifier shall supply on, or annex to, the movement document information and documentation referred to in Annex II, Part 2, to the extent possible at the time of notification.

A notification shall be considered properly carried out when the competent authority of dispatch is satisfied that the notification document and movement document have been completed as stated above.

The notifier may submit a general notification to cover several shipments if, in the case of each shipment:

the waste has essentially similar physical and chemical characteristics; and
the waste is shipped to the same consignee and the same facility; and
the route of the shipment as indicated in the notification document is the same.
